Paul Wardell will compete for the title in the NGRRC Minitwins Championship at Anglesey in North Wales

On August 12th and 13th , Bee Lighting’s resident racer Paul Wardell will compete for the title in the NGRRC Minitwins Championship at Anglesey in North Wales.

Having dominated the class in the early part of the season with four wins in a row and only finishing off the podium twice (finishing fourth both times), Wardell could clinch the title with two meetings to go.

“It’s been a great season for us. Minitwins is a very competitive class and we’ve had to fight hard for every point, which has produced some spectacular racing. With a 78 point lead I just need to keep finishing well, but if the going looks good- I’ll go for the win”, said Wardell.

“The Bee bike has been going well with the help of our friends at Bee Lighting, A C Commercials, Crees Design and support from Continental Tyres. I hope we can put on a good show for everybody on race day”.

Paul Wardell extended his lead in the NGRRC Minitwins Championship

Bee Lighting sponsored motorcycle racer, Paul Wardell, extended his lead in the NGRRC Minitwins Championship on 13th-14th May, with a first and second place during a double header held at Donnington Park.

In an exciting race where the first three riders swapped places on every lap, Wardell came out on top to take his fourth win in a row.

“It was a real relief to get that win in race one. After the last race at Oulton Park we found the engine had been damaged and had to do a fair bit of work to get the bike in shape for this meeting. Without any time to test it, I simply had to hop on and do my best”, said Wardell.

In race two, the battle intensified as the chasing leaders were split by a group of back markers.

Wardell also remarked:

“It was quite frightening really, the three of us were nose to tail when we came across a group of five back markers at the bottom of Craner Curves. William (Holland) went one way, I went the other and who knows what happened to Jake (Detloff). I spent the rest of the race trying to bridge the gap to William and got within 0.06 of a second of the club lap record in the attempt but had to settle for second place”.

That podium finish extends Wardell’s lead in the championship to 28 points with nine rounds left to go. The next race meeting was at Cadwell Park on the 3rd and 4th of June.

SVO Discovery Project HERO

SVO Discovery Project HERO

Bee Lighting were asked to take part in an unusual project, something not the normal but yet critically important as it will help SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) support the Red Cross in saving lives! Bee Lighting developed the workspace solution for the Land Rover Discovery, this included:-

  • Heavy-duty sliding floor in the rear load space, which may be deployed as an addition work surface, or to protect the load carried underneath.
  • Segregation panel behind the rear seats providing additional equipment mounting points.
  • Strategically positioned LED lighting to aid night vision.
  • Innovative power supply points which accept multiple plug arrangements from different regions.

lrnewdiscoveryprojecthero07021717 lrnewdiscoveryprojecthero07021721

Working closely with the experts at SVO the Bee team developed a solution that had to be durable and practical to survive operational use in the toughest conditions, something we are experienced in. The solution looked to utilise the space effectively and efficiently, almost Swedish in our design approach to the interior! Our expertise in Interior and Exterior LED Lighting was put to good use when developing a lighting system that supported working late into the night in any environment.

This was a challenging project but extremely rewarding

BEE Lighting win best British Small Business of the Year 2016

On Thursday 24th November 2016, the British Chamber of Commerce Business Awards took place in London. The Chamber Business Awards is one of the UK’s most contested and prestigious business award programmes. Each year, from Aberdeen to Plymouth, hundreds of organisations of all sizes and from all sectors compete for the coveted titles and the national recognition they bring. For BEE Lighting, the Awards Ceremony in London was the culmination of a long process starting in the early summer. In June, BEE won the “Small Business of the Year” Award for Herefordshire & Worcestershire during a memorable event at the Arena in Worcester and succeeded to win the Award for the West Midlands in the Regional finals later in September.

BEE Lighting are recognised industry experts in interior and exterior lighting products – mostly, but not solely, for the automotive industry. In recent years, their success has come from providing a unique mix of lighting technology and beautiful styling to deliver products customers love.

Paul Crees, Managing Director, said: “I’m completely blown away by this award, when they announced our name it took me a few moments to take it in”. He went on to state: “myself and Colin Fulford are very proud of the team’s achievements and it is so nice for them and us to be recognised in such a way”.

Mike Ashton, Chief Executive at Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Congratulations to the team at Bee Lighting on winning the British Chambers of Commerce Award for “Small Business of the Year”. This achievement is well deserved and recognises the company’s growth and success in recent years”. He went on to say: “I am delighted that a Worcestershire company has been recognised on a national scale. Competition in the regional and national awards is extremely tough and Bee Lighting’s success is a tribute to the world class, innovative companies we have in the county.”

Judges complimented BEE’s record for employing locally – now 33 staff – and growing skills from within through recruiting young talented people and allowing them the flourish.

Colin Fulford, Manufacturing Director, describes the current situation and the company’s plans: “Investing in our staff and our engineering development tools we are able to provide unique lighting solutions. Our all new automated modern production line will be commissioned shortly which will offer our customers exceptional lighting products from a world class manufacturing facility”.

“This National Award ends the business plan we put in place three years ago, it is also the beginning of the next phase of our growth and future success which I cannot wait to see” stated Steen McCollin, Technical Sales Director.

Bee Lighting at CES 2016

BEE Lighting at CES 2016

The BEE team attended this years Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. We saw over 3,000 exhibitors and joined 170,000 engineers to see the latest technologies and future trends. Of particular note in Automotive and Automotive Lighting was the noticeable expansion from last year with much more emphasis on electrification and connectivity. A clear example of this was the VW reveal of their BUDD-e concept car by the new head of VW Mr Herbert Diess. This was a world premier for VW for their zero emission BUDD-e van which demonstrated sophisticated connectivity and infotainment systems. The lighting was of particular interest with full lit grill and dynamic side flashes linking front and rear lighting signatures.

VW BUDDe 280x160

We also recognised an increase in companies offering adept sophisticated camera systems that offer greater safety features such as collision avoidance, sign recognition, etc. From Bee’s point of view this nicely supports adaptive lighting development and delivery of more sophisticated lighting solutions for brands that would not normally consider Matrix or Pixel head lights as an accessible technology.

Overall from a Lighting point of view Bee were pleased to see LED lighting being used extensively which is obviously our forte. OLED technology was prominent, the best example was by AUDI on their Audi TT and Audi e-tron concept fully-electric sports SUV, also BMW M4 GTS boast OLED taillamps. Many companies appear to be using lighting to enhance their brand image, clearly Bee Lighting have no issues with this trend.

There is so much more I could talk about, it was a great exhibition packed with useful technologies, trends and leads to support Bee’s customers and future lighting products.

Paul Wardell completes the 2015 NGRRC Minitwin championship

Bee Lighting sponsored motorcycle racer, Paul Wardell, completed the 2015 NGRRC Minitwin championship in a creditable third place.

‘It’s a hotly contested championship and this season has been tough with our fair share of crashes, injuries and mechanical challenges, but we kept pushing and put the Bee Team on the podium for the second year running,’ said Paul.

In spite of the difficult season Bee Lighting smashed their personal best points tally with ten podium finishes out of thirteen races. To end the season with a bang at the last round of the year the team also entered their bike into the Supertwin class. Running against machines with unlimited horsepower just for fun they came home with two second place finishes. A good end to a tough season.

Turning the spotlight on our expert team

We’ve been working away behind the scenes this year to develop our new brand.

There’s several reasons for this, but mainly we’ve rebranded because we wanted to better reflect the great people, skills and capability we now have. – as we consider ourselves problem solvers who think, create and make to provide ‘excellence in vehicle lighting for land, sea & air’.

In amongst our new look and proposition, you’ll see some of our team have been photographed (and lit) with the very lamps that they have helped create – as turning the spotlight on our own team to celebrate their expertise felt like the right thing to do.

We hope you like it, and please drop us an email as we’d would love to hear your thoughts.
